Hello world!

One of the consequences of being passionate about things is that you tend to have a lot of information that you want everyone else to know. To this end, I have decided to start blogging again. I began blogging in 2008 at https://drdymphna.wordpress.com and later at https://cordespsychiatry.wordpress.com but eventually the demands of private practice and family life distracted me from my efforts.  As I’ve continued my education and training in Integrative and Functional Medicine I find myself inspired and eager to share what I’ve learned with you all.

My journey into Integrative Medicine began in 2008 as I was finding myself increasingly frustrated with the traditional symptom-based model of psychiatry. Further motivation was found as I was looking into ways to help my youngest child, who had been diagnosed with autism. I began to observe patterns-increasing amounts of autoimmune diseases, rates of infertility, as well as the western medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, & strokes) not only in my patients & friends, but also in myself. Despite always maintaining a healthy weight and athletic lifestyle, I was struggling with Type 2 Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome, and Hashimoto’s disease (hypothyroidism).  Why? As I started looking past the symptoms and to the root causes of these conditions I took a deep dive into the role that foods, environmental toxins, and epigentics play in disease as well as in optimizing health. I am happy to report that I have successfully reversed both the diabetes and metabolic syndrome in myself through diet. I have followed a plant-rich ketogenic diet since May 2017 with fantastic results. I’m continuing to focus on my thyroid health and am looking deeper into detoxification and fine tuning diet.

Please join me in this quest for optimal health and balanced living. I look forward to sharing insights and tips on nutrition, stress reduction, and overall healthy living and wellbeing.

Thanks for reading!
